Issue 31 Release Party

Issue 31 Release Party

Bricolage’s 31st issue will be officially released on Wednesday May 29th at Parnassus Cafe and Gallery (in the basement of the Art Building). The journal is $15, unless you were published in the journal or a volunteer reader, then you get the discounted price of $12! You can purchase a copy, and even hear/see live performances of the artists’ work in the journal! Doors open at 7pm, so come on by to celebrate some of UW’s most talented individuals. All the information is also found on our Facebook event page, see the link. If you aren’t able to come to the party, you can still buy a copy in the English Department Undergraduate Advising Offices after May 29th.

Want to be Featured on the Bricolage Facebook Page? Read On!

Here at Bricolage, we are all about helping to show off the vast amount of creativity that comes from the people of the University of Washington. We already have a journal to display literary and visual arts, but now we want to do more. There are many more forms of art that we have for the most part ignored: music, dance, even blogging! Bricolage really wants to help people whose creative mediums can’t be printed in our journal get exposure. So, every week or so, Bricolage will feature an artist on our Facebook page for all of UW to see.

How does this work then? What we need from you is a link (to a YouTube video or website) that demonstrates what you think is your best work, and email it to bricouw@gmail.com. Please only send one link to one piece (i.e. one YouTube video, one blog post, etc) because we are not accepting whole YouTube channels or websites as submissions. Work can be collaborative, like if you have a video of your band playing some sweet licks. Please also include a short bio (60 words or less, please) about what you do and your relationship to the UW. Right now we will only accept submission from current UW students, alumni, and faculty.

So fill up your lungs with some fresh spring air and start emailing us! We want to feature as many people as we can, and the only way that will happen is if you show us just how creative and amazing you are!

All questions and submissions should be emailed to bricouw@gmail.com

Submission Deadline Approaching!

The title basically says it all! The deadline for submissions for Bricolage Issue 31 is February 25th, 2013 at 11:59 pm. We will not consider any pieces submitted once the clock strikes midnight, no exceptions (I know 30 Rock ending was hard for all of us, but mourning the loss of an awesome show will not excuse your lateness. Still being mesmerized by Beyonce’s halftime performance is also not a valid excuse. Sorry). All information about submissions can be found under our handy-dandy “Submissions” tab. How about that!

Now go light some candles, crank up the Bon Iver, and get creative!

Open Mic Night: It’s On!

Bricolage’s first Open Mic Night of the year will officially be held on Thursday January 17th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Parnassus Cafe. Now that we’ve got the date and the venue, all we need are the performers.

Anyone can participate! Feel free to get up and perform poems, short stories, or music. Please limit sets to ten minutes per person. Work can be original or covered (if you are covering another artist’s work, please be sure to acknowledge them during your set). If you would like to participate, please email bricouw@gmail.com with your own name, the names of the pieces you will be performing, and approximately how long your set will take. Please note that set lengths may be subject to change.

Thanks and hope to see you all soon!

December Update

Hello BricoFans!

We hope you had a great finish to your fall quarter. Now that we’ve all had some time to recover from finals, we wanted to give you an update on what’s going on in the world of Bricolage.

Submissions to the magazine are due on February 25th. All information about submissions can be found on the Submissions page. Hopefully winter break will help unleash your creativity and result in some awesome pieces of art, poetry, and short fiction!

If you are interested in being a reviewer for the submissions in any of the categories, you have until Monday January 7th, 2013 to let us know. Please email bricouw@gmail.com with your name and which category you would like to review.

Finally, Bricolage will be hosting an Open Mic Night in January! The exact date is still to be determined, we will let you know as soon as we get the date fixed. Anyone can participate too! Feel free to get up and preform poems, short stories, or music. Hope to see lots of you in January!

That’s all for now. Check back soon for more updates.

Happy Holidays,

The Bricolage Issue 31 Staff

Getting Involved

While not everyone can be an editor, everyone can be a volunteer reviewer. They are the vital backbone of Bricolage. By helping the editors read through submissions for the most compelling and driven pieces, volunteer reviewers ensure that Bricolage can bring the brightest minds to the attention of the greater UW community.

Getting started is a snap.

Send an email to bricouw@gmail.com and let us know that you’re interested in being a volunteer reviewer. Don’t forget to include what category you would like to reviewer for (e.g Fiction, poetry, or art). And yes, if your fancy takes you, you can reviewer for more than one category.

Hello and welcome!

This is Bricolage for the twenty first century.
