What are the different activities that Bricolage is hosting?
We will be hosting some writing activities and and an art project! Although these activities are designed to be collaborative, you can create individually as well. These include Halloween-themed writing prompts (e.g. “write the worst first sentence of a horror novel”), Exquisite Corpse (poetry edition), and blackout poetry. For our art project, we will be making collages.
We are also having an Open Mic! Whether you want to participate during the Open Mic portion, or just want to listen, we are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for writers to share their work.
Should I bring something to read at the Open Mic?
That is completely up to you! If you’re interested in reading during the Open Mic, but don’t have any work prepared, we’ve got you covered. We always encourage attendees to share prose and poetry that they’ve been working on. But, we are also encouraging attendees to share work they created at the event.
What food are you providing?
Our plan is to provide autumn-themed treats. This includes candy, cookies, and other baked goods. If you don’t have a sweet tooth, don’t worry! We’re also planning on some savory snacks as well. Please keep in mind that we are not providing dinner.
Is this a fundraising event?
This is not a fundraising event. The purpose of our Collaborative Art Night is to celebrate submissions opening for this year’s issue. It will also be a great opportunity to learn more about submitting to Bricolage, as well as asking questions about the process.
Although this is not a fundraiser, we are selling older editions of the journal. These journals will be at a significantly discounted rate ($5 instead of the usual $15), and we will accept both Venmo and cash payments. This discount will only be active during the event.
Is this a costume event?
Although this is during Halloween weekend, you are not expected to come in costume. But if you feel inspired to do so, then we definitely encourage it!
Do I need to indicate that I am coming to this event in advance?
Nope! All you need to do is show up at the designated time.
What should I do if I have additional questions?
